Meagan is one of the besties from college—I'd shot her and Brad's wedding a couple years ago and she'd always mentioned she'd love to do a shoot on a glacier one day.
Having never been much of a cold-person, I always told them to "ready the bear skins" before I ever considered going to Alaska. Solution #1, move to Idaho and get used to how people deal with cold. Easier Solution #2, go in summer ;-)
That's when you can go glacier-walking and not need much more than a light windbreaker. We were granted good weather to have some adventure and we were off!
I hadn't gotten a chance to see them since their wedding, so a whole weekend hanging out (with good weather on top of it) was an incredible treat. Topping it off with this was just the perfect cherry on top. Totally going back for winter.

Setting the stage—we hiked in for a good half hour or so before we got to the ice mounds. Despite you walking on rocks and dirt though, you're already on the glacier. You'd crunch along and realize the ice was just below. In a lot of places, you'd hear water trickling from where it was melting. A closer look would give you this:
Twas okay though; she came prepared and we progressed undeterred.
And it wouldn't be summer in Alaska without fireweed—one of Meagan's favorite, so on our way back, we found some and wrapped up our awesome day :)
